Relight New York is a wonderful non-profit, which attempts to change the world by doing one small thing: convert all of New York City to using energy efficient CFL light bulbs. They raise money to purchase bulbs on behalf of low-income families, and do a tremendous amount of youth outreach.
Avery Hairston, the organization’s founder (who is still in high school), was singled out by Mayor Bloomberg in his Service Nation Summit address last year.
RelightNY wanted to build a site that could quantify and make RelightNY’s progress visible and transparent. The project was a large collaboration with JWT, Children for Children, New York City Department of Education, and theCoderie. We provided a tremendous amount of guidance as to what was possible and what was not. The site had an ambitious launch date, and a very small budget. We built and executed a site we are proud of, and we believe that our greatest accomplishment on this project was keeping the scope in check with the gross budgetary constraints and pie-in-the-sky imaginations of some of the more talented minds in the city.
